Bill Johnston

Fairfax Associates and W. Through our close relationship, we function as a unified team that enables us to work together effectively to help our clients maximize their financial performance and improve their competitive position.

Bill Johnston, the founder of W. Johnston Associates, assists law firms on a variety of strategic, financial, organizational and leadership issues. Prior to establishing W. Johnston Associates, Bill served for eight years as the Director of Strategic Planning at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP where his responsibilities included, among other things, working with firm leadership on strategy development and implementation, financial matters and competitive intelligence. Prior to Cravath, Bill was Vice President of Hildebrandt International, where he and current Fairfax principals worked together assisting law firms in the critical areas of strategy development and implementation, governance and organization, growth initiatives, merger and achieving peak financial performance.

Sara Van Dusen

Fairfax Associates and Sara Van Dusen have entered into a strategic alliance, partnering to serve our clients with a broader range of operational, marketing, business development, and market intelligence expertise. Sara advises law firms on client retention, including growth strategies and key client initiatives. Sara also helps law firms develop strategies for operations management, business development, talent management and cultivating next generation leadership. 

Sara has worked with firms throughout the United States helping to restructure operational functions and manage transitions in operational leadership. Sara was previously the Director of Marketing and Business Development for Knobbe Martens, one of the largest intellectual property specialty law firms in the U.S., where she led the firm’s first key client feedback program, branding efforts, strategic market positioning and attorney development. She also worked as a senior marketing and business development professional leading Dorsey & Whitney’s marketing and business development initiatives for the western region. As the firm wide business development professional for Snell & Wilmer, she focused on business development planning and training for industry and practice groups as well as individual attorneys.
